There are many instances in scripture where even God relents and changes his mind. So, we can’t fault Joe Biden for doing just that. A statesman always knows when it is best to take his leave, and Joe Biden, ever the statesman, did so with grace and in a planned and strategic manner. Now with new life and enthusiasm in our Party; the GOP is stunned, and left with only division and utter chaos, both nationally and here in Colorado. We have been handed an amazing opportunity and the chance to save our democracy. We can build on the momentum and unite the country in a way that it has not seen in a long time. I believe people are tired of the insults and disparaging remarks about our country and the lies about the economy, our standing and our future. People are hungry for unity, hope, kindness, and goodwill. This is a message we can carry to the American people in the person of Kamala Harris. Instead of the usual “F” words Trump uses to describe things, like “failure”, we can bring a different vocabulary, with words like fresh and fit, factual, fashionable, forward-thinking, formidable and best of all, female.
The plans and platform of the GOP not only are old ideas but dangerous, unworkable and dystopian. We cannot go back to a false nostalgia of patriarchy, and white supremacy, self-righteous bigotry, and antebellum manifest destiny. The hard-won rights of women and the LGBTQ+ community are threatened as are any gains and protections of the environment. It is clearly evident that if you want this country to go forward, you will but the gear in “D.” If you want to go backward, put your gear in “R”.
The good news is that people are responding in an overwhelming, positive display of support. The bad news is we do not have much time to foster and solidify that support into votes for Harris, and for all of the Democrat candidates down ballot. It has been great to see many new volunteers step up and want to be a part of something bigger than themselves to bring a positive future to this country and this county. I am excited to see new subscribers to this newsletter. What we haven’t seen as much are donations to help us turn Weld blue and keep our party functioning. We have had some amazing donors step up, but frankly our coffers are low, and we will not be able to carry out our plans to get out the vote in the short time we have left, if that doesn’t change. If you are a frequent or sustaining donor to the party, thank you. You make it easier for me to sleep at night. I know that given the opportunity and encouragement, we can get funding to support our candidates, get voter registration volunteers, have texting and slate cards and postcard drives. We will be able to sponsor events for candidates and voters, buy advertising and support for canvassing and keep our office open. I have said most of the year that it will take bucks and bodies to keep this blue wave going. If not now, when?
Our time is short in about 100 days this all will be said and done. One of the best ways you can support the party is to come to the fundraising Roosevelt Dinner.
Tickets will only be available for a short time. Your $100 ticket will get you a fine dinner, an amazing speaker in Karen Middleton of COBALT and a chance to hear from many other candidates and elected officials. We will have entertainment, a silent auction and chance to be with like minded Democrats who share your enthusiasm and ideals. We will have a feminine theme this year, focusing on the loss of reproductive rights, and the threat to the rights of all in so many ways. We will also be celebrating the gains women have made over the years and honoring some of our own. If you have not bought your tickets, get your tickets now or call the office with your reservation and send in a check today.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone on August 10th at the Evans Library and Cultural Center.
